The LAGOS Method in Plain Words
Every year, we — the diaspora dreamers — send billions home. Most of it gets spent, not invested. No structure, just vibes. And when we try to build businesses from abroad, too many of us fall into the same traps.
I know, because I’ve been there. I once lost thousands to the wrong idea. Money gone, time wasted, wahala plenty.
That’s why I created the LAGOS Method — a simple way to test if your Nigerian business idea is worth your sweat, savings, and sanity. No jargon. No MBA talk. Just plain words.
L = Local Pain
Forget passion. Start with pain.
If it doesn’t solve a real Nigerian problem, it won’t last.
Ask yourself: What hurts people enough that they’ll pay for relief?
A = Affordability
You can’t price like you’re in London or New York.
If your target customer can’t pay, the idea won’t fly.
Always check: Can my people actually afford this?
G = Growth
Small is fine. But can it grow?
Look for ideas that can scale beyond one street, one friend, one neighbourhood.
Growth = stability.
O = Operations Simplicity
Running a business in Nigeria is already complex.
If your idea needs 20 moving parts, abeg, rethink it.
Keep it lean, simple, and manageable — especially from abroad.
S = Stickiness
The best businesses become habits.
If customers keep coming back without you begging, you’ve found stickiness.
That’s it. The LAGOS Method. Five checks in plain words.
Before you send money home, run your idea through this filter. It will save you stress, save you money, and maybe save your dream.
Because the goal isn’t just profit. It’s Profit + Peace.
